My 'Walther'/Umarex P22 is the worst handgun I have ever owned. It would put the safety on after every shot on its own. It never made it through a magazine without a failure to feed and eventually developed into a magazine fed single shot. AS for the M&P22. Im up to a few 1000s rounds and i love it. I had an issue with the slide not cycling all the way back and picking up the next round on the mag but ive have worked that out. A bit of filling on the frame where it meets the slide and some lube and good quality.22 bullets fixed it. Ive added a fiber front site and M&P9 factory.
The P22 is a semi-automatic pistol chambered for .22 LRrimfire ammunition. Manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, it was introduced in 2002.
Operation[edit]
The P22 may be fired double action at about 11 pounds of force, and operates as a single action with slightly more than 4 pounds of force.[1] The P22 operates by blowback where pressure generated by a firing cartridge is countered by a combination of the inertial weight of the slide assembly and the force of the recoil spring. The action will not open until the projectile has left the barrel and the pressures have dropped to safe levels. The gun will not cycle efficiently unless high velocity .22 rounds are used.
Criminal use[edit]
A Walther P22 was one of the weapons used in the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting.[2]
A Walther P22 was the weapon used in the 2008 Kauhajoki school shooting.
